Jane Morgan Smith went from the corporate world into entrepreneurship, with a dedication to working at what she loves. After careers in banking, the arts, non-profits and energetic bodywork, Jane chose to share her love of authentic Black Winter truffles as a career, and devoted herself to cultivating these precious gifts from Mother Nature. Until her retirement from farming in February 2017, Jane produced all-natural truffle products at the farm and now works from a kitchen in  Winston-Salem marketing the black truffle products to customers all over the U.S. through the Truffles NC brand.

The farm’s truffle orchards were originally planted in 2000 and the first truffles were unearthed in 2006. Each winter, Jane worked with the dogs she trained herself, in pursuit of the precious fungus that may be growing unseen on the tree roots. The first harvest at Jane’s farm brought about a visit from Martha Stewart, who declared the truffles to be as fine as any she ever had.

With the soil of North Carolina well-suited for truffle growing, the industry is expected to expand greatly throughout the area. Jane Morgan Smith is the recently retired executive director of the North American Truffle Growers’ Association (NATGA), an organization working to make the U.S. a reliable source of truffles for worldwide consumers.

Jane spent 30 years in corporate administration, retiring early from Wachovia Corporation. She then studied beadwork at Penland School of Crafts in Western North Carolina and the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. She graduated from the Therapeutic Massage program at Forsyth Tech as a Licensed Massage Therapist, with a certification in Healing Touch, a biofield energy form of bodywork. Jane also worked in the non-profit sector at Stokes CORE in Stokes County.  Jane also worked as Executive Director of the North American Truffle Growers' Association (NATGA) after serving 3 years as its President.  She is a charter member.

Jane currently supports the community by organizing annual truffle dinners that raise funds for ChildrensLawCenterNC.org.
